| Trailer tongue extension
Ok, had my tires rotated today and they needed a hammer to get my back wheels off... RUST!
I have a raised trailer, perfect for Baja, but it makes me put my rear tires on my F250 about 6"s under water.
Was wondering, cause I realy don't want to lower the trailer... has anyone had any experiance with one of those trailer tongue extenders????
I need to add about 3 feet when launching... cause if I continue the way I have been, i figure I whole rearend is gonna seize one of these days.
Found this.... anyone have something better??? http://www.xtend-a-hitchnorthwest.com/pictures.htm

I wouldnt want to tow it always that way,but if you could do something quick and easy just for launching and loading that would be cool.I have seen alot of foldable tounges for fitting into a garage and they tow after folding it out via hitch pins.

My buddy has one of those (I don't think it's the same mfg but it's the same setup) on his boat trailer. It keeps his truck wheels outta the water but it's a pain in the ass. His boat is pretty heavy and his winch is a knuckle buster so jacking up the trailer 3-4 times per trip sucks. His extension flexes a lot but he has about 7' of extension. It just about scrapes on the ground when backing down the ramp. He tries to keep the extension clean and greased up but corrosion and gunk still get on the bar making it kinda tough to extend and stow sometimes. Lastly, he drives a crew cab dually. With the trailer tongue extended the truck/trailer is a pretty long rig to park.
Bottom line: His old truck is pretty rusty. His newer truck has no rust and the rear wheels come off (when he wants them to).
Good luck.

stan i got the tools we could easly make a heavy duty extension out of some square tubing like what on your trailer now.make this thing removable using hitch pins.

bayrunner use to have one on a trailer available with their boats that had the spare tire mounted on it just in front of the hitch. The spare was mounted on a hub. It acted as a front wheel for the trailer keeping you from draging. As I rembemer it was a straight shot only, no turning while using the extension. I rembember seeing one about 10 foot long.

I had my trailer made extra long in the tongue, for just this reason. Any chance of extending the trailer and not a extension @ the hitch?

I second Jack! I made one for a little 14 footer that we beach launched, it was simply 10 feet of square tubing drilled out to fit the pins. When backing down I'd stop, unhitch and pull forward. Next pop in the 10 foot one complete with another ball. Lift the tongue back on it and continue to launch boat. Saved our asses at low tide. It would be harder with a heavier boat but still better than rusting out a new truck.

Stan, we used to have a 18' ski boat (Silverline) we got from my in-laws and it had a sliding tongue. Basically it was like some of the suggestions -- the coupler was on square stock which was in square tubing. It had a hitch pin and holes at the extended and collapsed positions. We'd get to the ramp, unplug the wires, chock a tire, pull the pin and drive forward to extend the tongue and vice versa when we left.
The boat had over twelve years of almost weekly salt use at Ski Beach and we never had a problem with the sliding tongue (we washed down EVERY time we went out.) I finally replaced the trailer 'cause everything else rusted out, but the tongue was still slidin' fine!
I'd probably call Aros and ask them about modify your trailer.

Put some axel grease on the lug bolts. wash down after each launch like you do your trailer. You do wash your trailer?? Truck shouldn't be any different than tha trailer.
