USCG Data on Marine Explosions...

Ok, So since alot of "savvy" guys got "their panties in a knot" about the "Automotive Parts On a Boat" thread, it got me thunking. Exactly how many fires are actually occurring in boats due to FUEL EXPLOSIONS? How big a deal is this?

Well this is from a USCG Boating Safety Circular from SEpt. 1991. So heres some real hard data.

Guess what. More danger running into a "FIXED OBJECT," than an explosion from fuel.
And my hunch is that very few are attibutable to "Auto parts on Marine Vessels."

We need classes about how "NOT to Fall Overboard.
We need classes on "Not Hitting Stationary Shit."
We need classes about "How to Drive a Boat."

So, do what you like but the data is in.

Actual site and Circular for your perusal right here:

Happy Boating!!!

Looks like bad manners may be the biggest problem, 4422 collisions with other boats.
Too bad they don't sell marinized manners, could make a fortune right there

That 4,422 is all me. I'm working on running over 5000 jet skis by year end.

My dad always said "You gotta have goals son."

Wish me luck.

You should be able to get your 578 this weekend on the way out of the harbor.

And if even one explosion is attributable to automotive parts, that risk is too great for me and my crew.

Do you and your crew drink beer when fishing?

MAJOR cause of many of the more popular maladies of boating.

While at the USCG site I also came over this one that I believe most everyone here is in violation of:

Subpart B—Propulsion Machinery<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />
§ 182.200 General.
(a) Propulsion machinery must be
suitable in type and design for propulsion
requirements of the hull in which
it is installed and capable of operating
at constant marine load under such requirements
without exceeding its designed
limitations.
(b) All engines must have at least
two means for stopping the engine(s)
under any operating conditions. The
fuel oil shutoff required at the engine
by § 182.455(b)(4) will satisfy one means
of stopping the engine.

I know mine didn't come with a device of this nature.

Any thoughts?
