Volvo 270 outdrive/shift cable

Please share the trick for removal of the shift cable. Iam revering to the inside where the inlet tube is. Very tight area. Special socket or wrench? I can not find it in my manuel. Thanks for help.

Re: Volvo 270 outdrive/shift cable

If I'm understanding you properly, take a look at this diagram:

http://www.volvopentastore.com/mall/...r/5972_big.png

You need to remove cotter pin #40 and washer #41 then remove the nut and #39 from the end of the shift cable. The cable should now pull cleanly out of the drive from inside the bilge area. You just need to stab the new cable into the drive and reconnect in reverse. Be sure you adjust the cable with the drive in neutral.

Re: Volvo 270 outdrive/shift cable

Thanks for reply- I got that part, its from inside the boat where the shift cable hose is located. I do not know if I can pull threw it or have to take it off first. ( REF- hose that connects to outdrive from inside boat/ kep water out)

Re: Volvo 270 outdrive/shift cable

There is also a plate on the rear of the outdrive that holds the cable in place. As long as that has been removed, you should be able to pull the old cable through the hose.

Make sure you take the rubber boots off, but leave a nut on the new cable before you stab it through that hose. Reinstall the boots after the end of the cable is installed in the outdrive.
