Make sure the impeller fins are slanted the proper direction for the shaft rotation. While the prop is off remove the thrust washer and check for fishing line on the prop shaft. That stuff will tear up the seal behind. Good tutorial.

Great post, did that perma-trim affect your warranty at all? I think one would be a great thing for my boat

Installing a Permatrim will not alter the warranty on any motor.

I picked up a boat with a 94 Mercury 225 so decided to change the impeller before doing anything else. Got it apart no problem but there is a hose attached to the lower unit that appears to have a plug in it. It seems as though it goes nowhere and I cannot see anywhere for it to be plugged into when I put the lower unit back on. Any ideas on what it is and if it is supposed to go somewhere? Thanks.

Dan,
Is tha hose approx 1/4" in diameter? If so it:
Probably the water pressure hose that operates certain types of speedometers. The last guy either didn't want to use it or didn't need to use it so he plugged it.
I had that same engine and that hose came loose at the speedometer on an albacore trip and salt water soaked the entire back side of the instruments compartment. Needless to say I cut it off at the engine and plugged it. I did the same thing with my new 250HP E-Tec. I use my GPS & Chartplotter to know my speeds.
Hope thai helps you ---
