NO seatrial?? Buy it??

Ok guys, may have finally found a boat. Its the size style and type im looking for. Im going to see it tomorrow. Owner says it is practically showroom condition and has less than 30 hours on it. I asked him about a possible seatrial at Lake Mead and he says it is registered in Michigan not Nevada and that he doesnt think he can take it on the water out here. Sounds like the price is reasonable and he is flexible with the price. Also said he would give my money back if im not satisfied, although this might be tough to pull off.

My question is, is it at all common to buy a vessel with no seatrial??

Anything I should look for??

Thanks for any support here.

Re: NO seatrial?? Buy it??

He's feeding you bullshit so he doesn't have to sea trial it. No reason he can't put the boat in the water at Lake Mead. Why in the fuck would that be the case???!!! Its a federal lake in the middle of a federal National Recreation Area. People from all over brings their boats to lake mead.

I hate it when idiots fools and con-men mouth off about the law when they don't know shit.

Tell the seller to sea trial the boat or don't buy it. You'll find another deal

Re: NO seatrial?? Buy it??

No, I would not recommend buying a used boat without a substantial sea trial. As a new boat dealer and a used broker in the past I have never been involved in a transaction where the boat wasnt sea trialed. Even brand new boats you go for rides in demo boats to see how certain models perform.

Re: NO seatrial?? Buy it??

I bought my boat without the seatrial and have had no major issues, just the normal wear and tear. However, when I buy my next boat I will ask for a seatrial before I make the purchase. Take it out when the water is choppy and the wind is blowing.

Re: NO seatrial?? Buy it??

Yup, Yup, you can take the boat out to Lake Mead with Michigan tags, just gonna cost you $20 to get into the lake. As said before, run it on the lake before buying and as tuna taxi suggested, try to do it when it's a bit choppy out, your going to be seeing a lot of rough water out at Mead and Mohave. For what you are talking about, I wouldn't buy it without a sea trial. I bought my boat from a friend and knew the boat, but when he bought it the outdrive was shot, $1800 later it was repaired.

So what are looking at?

I know you were looking at a deck boat a while back, I saw one for sale recently, forgot to PM you, too busy. It was parked off on the 215 north somewhere between Decatur and Jones, saw it heading home midweek. Looked to be about 20' and fairly new.

Good Luck!

Re: NO seatrial?? Buy it??

Its kind of funny, What size style boat and what cost are we talking about? Some deals are too good to pass up and a couple grand in repairs may still be in the "good deal" range. Did the guy have it surveyed?
