Ford, Chevy, Dodge

Or Chevy, Dodge, Ford or does everybrand have it's lemons and gems?

I am looking at used boats in the 23' range, outboard, walkaround that my bro-n- law and I can afford, cash. So that puts us shopping in the 6-10 year old range. Lots too choose from and lots with Mercs and 'Rudes. Question is, are any really classified as grenades? FICHT, seems that Bombadeer has the fix for that series. What of injected Mercs? I looked at a 2001 SportCraft today with 200 Mercury Saltwater on it. It does not say anything on it but Saltwater and 200. Is that carburated? Injected? Would it be CARB legal for Diamond Valley Lake? In other words does an outboard HAVE to have CARB stars on it to be CARB legal or could there be years of motors without the markings that are CARB legal? What about the Yamaha OX66 engines? Injected and gas guzzlers or just early HPDI? HEEEEEEELP, ya'll can pour it on 'cause I am reading everything I can.

Re: Ford, Chevy, Dodge

How do I Identify Mercs? This one I am looking at says Saltwater. If it were an Opti, which I am under the impression is a 2 Star motor wouldn't it say so on the cowl? Is there a place on the internet that shows lineage over the last several years. I think it has already been established there a bunch of crappy dealers, so getting advice from them is worthless. The staff at DVL (local winter fishing) says bring it down? Help, I would really like a rig I can use in the winter for local freshwater and to float around, and have better mileage for off shore runs.
