Best Hand GPS for Anch Watch?

My Furuno 1850 DF is located topside on the bridge and does not have the ability to add a remote horn or alarm. So in the event we drag anchor during the night, I can barely here the alarm. So looking for an inexpensive & reliable Handheld GPS that will set off a loud signal inside the cabin. Are there certain units better than others for this application? Signal inside cabin may be a factor. Thanks.

Re: Best Hand GPS for Anch Watch?

Mike,

I have the GPS Map 76 from Garmin and find that the anchor alarm is very good on the unit. I paid $350 for mine when they first came out a few years back, but saw them advertised at Bass Pro for around $129. Also a great unit for use as a backup. Holds up to 8MB of charts you can download from the bluecharts.

Buena suerte,

Thanks Todd. Do you think these units would recieve a signal inside an enclosed cabin?

Um, yes.

Dude, you want an "Inexpesive" item that could, at the very least, save you from a repair bill from hell???

Garmin 76

Model after that depends on your checking account. Keep in mind you might want some maps

Re: Best Hand GPS for Anch Watch?

I use the Map 76 when I am at my duck club and it helps me find the less visible blinds quite easily. Mounted on the dash of my car, it shoots through the windshield easily. If you were able to mount it in your cabin in a way that it has a straight shot to the sky, it should be able to get a sat lock.

Buena suerte,
