Nick at Skipjack recommended speaking to " Harry's Marine in Orange...(714) 771-7899 Even the people from Volvo recommend him.
Outdrive and steering needs to be changed if you put in the new D series engines.
I have heard numbers like 28 to 30,000 to repower with a D4 260hp." Take it in and find out if these or some other brand will fit. Hope that helps |

I would assume those numbers are "each" ....OUCH! I have used Harry for my service and he is deff the best man for the job! Be prepared to wait as he is busy..It took 6 weeks to get my boat in for a complete baseline service.

Just put a single diesel in. Maint and use will be much more economical.

single is a nice idea i will have extra room for generator
i thing she will be too slow
now I'm cruising at 20 to 25 and max 30 n
i did some e research and most 200 hp and up (6c) will fit in there.

Your boat needs at least 300hp in a diesel to get it to plane and a decent cruise. I had a 26' Radon with a 200hp diesel and it was a slug. But.. a single will work great and your engine room will have tons of space.

stick a single volvo or yannie in there if your thinking that direction. You can easly achieve those numbers with 280-310 HP. I have a KAD44-P in my skippy fully loaded and cruise 18-22 no problem with 30-32 pushing C4's

Sammi, I would say that you have yourself a situation! There are two BIG holes in your transom. So, you gotta rebuild the transome to go with a single. What about the stringer setup? If you go with twin 240hp Yanmars or volvos, its gotta be $50K+easy. If you go with a big single (and asociated big drive), it will be close to the same number with the transom work stringers etc. You can get NEW 5.0 MPI 's WITH the bravo 1 drive for about 13K a copy. So you are 30 K with new injected gassers (2) 20-30 G buys a lot of Fuel! And those 5.0 MPIs are thrifty with gas.
check it out at Carbureted Sterndrive Mercruiser Marine Engines at Performance Product Technologies
Diesel is cool, but pricey. I am no mathemeticion, but $30k would be hard to make up in fuel savings I think.
Now, If you are like Jason (LOADED WITH DINERO) go with the volvo Global - Volvo Penta : D6-310/DP

also look into an inverter system vs a generator, technology has come a long way. usually work out about the same price but you cant hear the inverter.

Bill (Allison) has the same motor in his Skippy that I run in my Stripper. That engine is now 320 hp and will easily push your boat faster than you will want to go 90% of the time. Oh, it will also give you close to 8mpg while tuna trolling and 3+mpg while cruising. Volvo's are another great option but are heavier. They also have the fly-by-wire deal that makes steering and gear changes a one finger affair. BUT, auto-pilot is a lot more expensive because of some sensor you need for drive angle.
To me, the biggest reason to go single diesel is RANGE! Unless you run the thing many hours a year, you will NEVER SAVE MONEY. If the manufacturers ever pull their collective heads out of their asses or people buy more diesels and make them cheaper, range is the last holdout. Hours per year can be a benefit if you use them a lot.

Two diesels = a lot more weight in the ass.
If your boat is already ass heavy, you'll only make it worse. If your boat is nose heavy, it's probably the way to go.
If your boat is ass heavy, like most boats, you'll save a lot of weight and trim the boat better with a single diesel.
Most conversions from dual gas to duel diesels require the owner to shift a lot of weight forward. Most conversions from dual gas to single diesel balance out the typically ass heavy boat. If you want to optimize the ride of the boat, you're going to spend just as much money moving systems forward as you would on fiberglass work to convert to a single, unless you do all the work yourself.
If you are using your trim tabs for anything other than port to starboard adjustments, your boat is ass heavy. If your boat is properly balanced, you only have to adjust for people moving around the boat.
Boat expenses are like an iceberg...
