| HOW TO GET RID OF OLD FUEL
I have some old fuel in my Shamrock. The fuel is about 1 year old. I don't know if it's bad, but I want to get rid of it anyway. There's about 70 gallons. How do I get rid of it?
Thanks
Rick

I like to burn mine starting campfires at the desert but that usually only amounts to a few gallons a season. Can't certain landfills process this? Seems to me they have hazardous disposal somewhere. How much does the tank hold? Maybe you could use a portion of old to a larger portion of new gas?

I thought it was pretty expensive to get rid of... And just as expensive to get polished... like 300 bucks. In the past, I knew someone who worked at a gas station, and dumped it in there tank. 100 gals in a 10,000 gal tank is pretty diluted. I'd be interested to see if there was a location to recycle it. All the oil is recycled, Diesels pretty much the same thing. Maybe call the landfill recycling center, They seem to deal with all kinds of hazerdouse waste. gluck

Read the thread on "polishing." Might be of some value. No sense paying to do somethig that really might not be needed just to get a warm fuzzy. That's good fishing ca$h wasted.
Can be run in a diesel with no problem but has to be installed in a high dilution ratio. Can be re-ran in the original boat mixed with new gas and Sta-Bil.
As can the motor oil.

To get it out, used a hand pump to get a siphon going and let gravity to the rest.
When I blew my motor up, I had 80 gallons still in my tank. I got every jerry can I had and borrowed a few from friends. Pulled 60 gallons out and filled the tank with fresh juice. Did a bunch of paddy hopping trips running a dilluted mixture of old gas and fresh gas. With in 2 months, all the old shit was gone. Or, you can have one hell of a rage'r out in the desert! |

Disconnet the fuel line (BEFORE THE FILTER) us a small tube to connect it to some more fuel line and turn the fuel pump on.

You said fuel so I'm sure you meant Diesel and not gasoline. Diesel won't turn like gas so it has a really long pot life. Disposal (proper) is expensive cause it's over 50 gallons. Honestly I wouldn't dispose of it, for the money it costs to dump it you could build your own polishing system. There's a large Filter company in National city (sorry i can't remember the name) but they have complete filter canisters for industrial diesel engines. Plumb it in to your lift pump and loop the discharge back into your tank. Put a charger on the battery and just let that fucker run. Works great I know, had one of my guys forget to put the cap on my 400 gallon tank on my drill rig and fucked the fuel up bad with mud/dust/water. Bought some filter canisters while I was picking up the replacement filters for the deck engine set it up and made the dipshit stay over night to change filters...Drilling the next morning.
Seriously diesel takes more than a year to turn it just gets contaminated that's why back up diesel generators are used for hospitals and such.
just my $0.02

Just did mine, I have 6 / 6gal container. I used a siphon bulb you sqeeze(from harbor freights for $2.99), unscrew sending unit, purchase extra 10' hose from home depot to reach bottom of gas tank, I used a small fishing pole and strapped to hose, because hose is all twisted, told relatives "free gas come over" took a week to empty. I didnt want to drain through the pump because it might get jacked it up if your tank is as filthy as mine, mine had some fiberglass corrosion

It's gas. I want it pumped out of the tanks... 2 X40 gallon tanks. So I want it pumped out and disposed of. I just bought a 25' whaler with and outboard. I'm more than likely going to put a diesel in the Shamrock next year, but I'm not sure. Either way Iwant to get rid of this old gas.
Thanks
Rick
