Re: Trailer tires

you CANNOT use regular car tires due to the thickness needed in the side wall for trailer tires...don't want to sway.

i went to Discount Tire in P.B.

i bought the Tow Masters. good price, good tire.

Re: Trailer tires

Big O has trailer tires that are raited for weight. OK price.

Re: Trailer tires

Since we have yet another tire thread going I have a question to add on. One of the prior threads recommends Marathon tires by Goodyear. I have a 21' Striper and the trailer currently has D rated tires on it. When I went to Discount Tires they told me that the Marathin only came in a C rated tire.

OK, so I talked to a friend of mine who builds trailers and he said that DOT is going away from A,B,C,D ratings and using weight ratings. Anyone else heard about this and is anyone using the Marathons on a 21' + boat?

I figure to just work on the boat and trailer this weekend since everyone and their brother will be on the water. Looking forward to the Steve Moyer Memorial Kayak tournament next weekend in LJ.

TL,
Jim

Re: Trailer tires

I was going to add the Marathon's as well. I have not tried them yet but keep hearing them come up as the tire to buy.

Re: Trailer tires

The tires I got from big-o were rated for weight, not by class. I don't know who makes them, I am not at home right now so I can't even look.

Re: Trailer tires

I've run Greenball Towmasters on two boats (bayrunner bajas - 205x75x14) and towed them both all over Baja with tons of shit in them - thousands of miles. Never a single flat or blowout. They are made by Goodyear on the same line as marathons. I totally trust them.

Re: Trailer tires

When I'm not fishing I do some off-roading - here is a current thread about trailer tires on Jeepaholics - may be some good info here since these folks haul a lot of weight just like we do.
