94 Mercury OB 115 HP

So I have a strange problem with my Outboard. If i run all day and for some reason the engine cuts out (which does not happen very much) then I have a really hard time starting it again. It seems as if the alternater is not charging the batteries???

I will turn the key and it barely turns the engine over, sometimes there is just a click, other times it will turn over.

The facts: This has been somewhat of an ongoing issue, so far i have: replaced the batteries, cleaned all the contacts and cables and used dielectric grease on the ends. I removed the starter motor and it seems that that is totally fine.

COuld it be the relay switch? Are there any tests i can run? When i start the day off my battery meter on the console says around 10.5 volts (new batteries???) when i am running for a while, the volt meter says 13 volts. If i turn off the engine and try and start it again the volt meter says 10 volts.

This has me so confused. I am thinking it is either a bad cable or a bad relay switch.

Any suggestions???

having been the unfortunate owner of a 93' 200hp merc (aka: "the black bomb"), i wish someone woulda given me this advice. if you keep that motor, that glich will soon birth other more fatal symptoms. merc sucks.

(stepping down from my soap box and relinquishing control).

good luck!!
