Rebuilt 302 or 351 1988 Ford Engine

Well, got the diagnosis and need to replace our I/O.

Has anyone bought a rebuilt engine recently? Where did u buy it? Where did you look at buying?

Who did the work?

Thanks for the help, just wished this would have happened at the end of the season.

www.boatfix.com has decent prices. Not sure of a local outfit. If you need manifolds/risers or other stuff let me know. I got a shed full of 888 stuff.

Thanks. I am extremely ignorant when it comes to engines, buddy of ours who works at American European is helping with the diagnosis and rebuild when he can.

I will keep this thread posted with info.

Bought the boat in March, used it 5 times, and got towed in.

I wasn't on it at the time, YFT1979 may chime in and say exactly.

Overheated on the water and they shut off the engine immediately, which from what I am told is the worst thing you can do.

Buddy said cylinder and heads are cracked, get a new engine.

Oh shit. Ya your temp would fly if you were at a high rpm then just shut her down as it is raw water cooled. I've done that a few times by accident(hitting a Mola) and had to wait for the engine to cool down before it would turn over. Probably made the pistons twice the size from the heat

Re: Rebuilt 302 or 351 1988 Ford Engine

I just went thorught that whole situation last year. For the price of a good rebuild, I decided to kick in a little more coin and bought a brand new engine. When I was looking, the rebuild was going to cost me ~$2500. The new setup was ~$3900. If you want some better details, send me a PM and I'll give you my number to contact me. I'm leaving for a few days tonight so sooner is better than later.

Re: Rebuilt 302 or 351 1988 Ford Engine

Thanks for the info. I am really just gathering info, will probably do the repair in the off season. Got the inflatable to fish local with for the time being and will jump on an overnight or two for the long range fix.

Didn't pay that much for the boat and trailer to begin with, so gonna try and stick with the rebuild, which from what I have seen your estimate is right on.
