Skipjack rub rail

Guys, I am looking to replace the rub rail on my 1978 24' Skipjack. Has anyone had any experience in changing their rub rail? I currently have the rub rail off teh boat now. If so what company did you purchase it from and did you go with all stainless steel or all aluminum. Also any idea on what teh total length you used if it was a 24' Skippie.

I replaced just the rubber on both my Skippys 20 & 24, I got the stuff for the 24 at the Skipjack factory when I was on my way to Hemet a couple years ago, They were real helpful. The 20fter, I took a sample into San Diego Marine Exchange and they ordered it for me. I never replaced the metal part, The rubber is a major pain in the ass to replace

Re: Skipjack rub rail

Thanks for the info. I am replacing the entire assembly and have already removed the metal part. I am looking to do all aluminum or all stainless without the rubber insert.

Re: Skipjack rub rail

Back in the early 90's, I bought a boat that belonged to Oren K. from Catalina VA; he replaced the rubrail with firehose and it actually looked and worked cool.

Re: Skipjack rub rail

I think it was a place called L&L Marine in Anaheim or something like that. I use to get all the anodized rub rail from them They also have the vinyl inserts in all sorts of different colors too. Not sure if they sell direct to the public. they use to only sell wholesale, but that was a long time ago.

Places like Rex Marine would also sell the nice type rubrail. Warning those kits from West Marine made by like Taco are kinda cheesy.
if you go with the aluminum stuff, it isnt that hard to do. Just take your time while you bend it arounf the boat. One more pointer, dont use wood screws, rivet the rubrail in place and use silicon.

Jack
