I know this thread is fairly out-dated, but I found it via search and would like to throw out a question to those who are in the "know". I am currently looking at a 1986 (???) Cabo 216. It's in fantastic shape for a 23 year old boat, it seems perfect for what I want to do with it, which is fish and dive the channel islands while having a highly-trailerable boat for running from Ventura down to San Diego.
The high NADA value is roughly $6K, seller is asking $15K. I know it's worth way more than $6K (obviously)...but can I get some opinions on if I should pay $15K or not? If I do I have to do some major scratching...caust the bank will only loan up to the high NADA value.
Here's some specs on the boat from a previous email... Quote: The 1986 Cabo 216 Cuddy-Con is one of the best small sportfishers/channel crossers ever built. Just re-powered w/ a 1999 Yamaha 225 hp that came off a Parker w/ only 400 hours on it --runs perfect. New Teleflex hydraulic steering system and stainless prop in addition to all new canvas & upholstery 2 years ago. 1996 Pacific galvanized trailer, fair to good condition. Additional equipment includes 2-piece 130 gallon welded aluminum fuel tank (100 gallon main, 30 gallon reserve), new VHF radio, new chartplotter/GPS/Fishfinder (not installed yet), outriggers, rocket launchers, gimballed rod holder, 2 separate 25 gallon bait tanks, wash down pump, 2 bilge pumps, hydraulic trim tabs, huge deck lights and all running/cabin/cockpit lights, Racor fuel/water separator, anchor/chain storage locker, slide-out tackle boxes, built-in ice boxes/drink holders, hinged deck plates/fish lockers, dual batteries w/ Perko switch and a lot more stuff. | Thanks for any input you may have. I really love this boat...just hoping I am not about to pay too much for it. The seller is a friend of a friend, seems like a real honest guy. Planning on taking the boat out with him next Sunday for a "sea-trial" of sorts, if everything goes as planned. Of course...I'm still keeping my options open in case another great boats appears. |

I wouldn't pay 15k for a 23 y/o hull with 10 y/0 2 stroke o/b on it. You can get alot more for your money. I've seen 3-4 y/o 21' Triumphs with low hour 4 strokes go for just a little more than that. You can do better if he's not willing to come down significantly on price.

The wife wants a cuddy, I want a center console, this boat is like the best of both worlds.
He's not actively listing or trying to sell the boat, and my gut feeling is that since he doesn't "need" to sell it...he's trying to get a premium price or nothing at all.
I'm in no big hurry to buy...but sooner is of course always better .
I am certainly willing to look at anything in the $20K range if there are any suggestions lurking out there. ???

You might want to do some searches.

| I'm very happy with my 1987 216. I have the original Yamaha 175 with 1800 hours on it and it's still going strong. One thing I would look at is the fuel tank. Pull the seat up and look at the tank. If it still has the original tank with the foam then take a very close look at it. A foamed in tank has a tendency to corrode from the salt water becoming trapped between the foam and the tank. I had to replace my tank for $600 and you would only smell gas when the tank was full. Don't forget to check out the trailer too, hopefully it has disc brakes and not drum. I’ve never had any problem with my bait tanks or the battery compartment and I’ve been in some very sloppy conditions. I did install an automatic bilge pump and a manual on/off backup pump that’s wired to another set of batteries I installed in the cabin just in case. Mike |

My co-worker has a 2006 Parker 1801 Center Console, Yamaha 115 w/ barely 50 hours on it (all break-in use). Only extras are a VHF, raw water washdown, nice T-Top w/ canvas, f/r deck lights, swim step. Boat, motor, trailer look brand new. He wants somewhere around $22K. I think if he'll go down to an even $20K I will do it. Any opinions on that one?
Thanks!

Thanks! | What do you really want? What do you intend to use it for the most? What is your budget? Sounds like a good deal on the Parker, but I'm not a huge small center console fan, nevermind not being a Parker fan.
Found this post while searching.....might try this guy if you really like the Cabo Cuddycons. Bought cheap enough you can repower with a used 4 stroke and have a great boat. It was posted July this year...
"I've got a cabo 226 cuddycon for sale. It's the best of both worlds, large walk around console with a small cuddy! 120 gals of fuel gps/ff autopilot full transom with 2 built in bait tanks etc. The outboard is older, 1991 200 hp Yamaha, but it's been bullet proof so far and gets 2 nmpg. Email me at derekclay@yahoo.com if interested "

It's a 2-piece design, a main tank and a reserve with a selector knob, welded aluminum. Trailer is "OK", and yes it has electric DRUM brakes on the rearward axle. Gonna need tires real soon, visible pitting rust on leafs and spindles.
I am thinking that if he'll take $10K...I want it. Otherwise I'm moving on in search of my perfect sea charriot.
Thanks

I really want a solid, reliable, comfortable, new as possible, workhorse of a boat with a repectable fuel range. Center console is more my style, max deck space, but a cuddy would be nice for the wife;s comfort and for overnight trips.
2. Main uses would be diving/spearfishing/fishing the Channel Islands and off-shore paddies. Secondary uses would be cruising the family out to Catalina, or maybe to the lake once in a while.
3. I'm towing with a 1/2 ton V8, so I cannot get too big and heavy. I really want to be able to tow down to San Diego on the fly without a white knuckle ride every time.
4. I'm pre-qualified for a $20K loan.
