Can anyone with battery knowledge tell me which way to go...2 Trojen T-145's or 3 scs 225's. Going in a Skip 26 that spends alot of time offshore and at the islands. I'm powering a full array of tronics and a 52 gal bait tank w/ 1100gph pump..

SCS 225's are 12volt batts.
If you have enough room for 3 of those why not one 8d. About 40lbs. less weight?

The six volt batteries are much better for deep cycle applications , but do need to be treated properely. IE: correct recharging and properely going through duty cycles.

During my recent rewire, I had the same dilemma. My electrician advised me to stay with the SCS 225's. The weight is quite an issue. The 6v is 75 lbs each and the 12v is 66 lbs ... something to take into consideration. I went with 4 225's, two in each bank ... plenty reserve for an overnighter with bait!

I went with the 6V Trojans for house setup. House (with Inverter/micro) and electronics do better on the deep cycle. For starting, any good 12V marine is fine, imho.

Excuse me for sounding naive, but why not just use a small honda generator on board when the batteries are not being charged with the boat motor. Sure a lot less weight than al the extra batteries

Some people like myself dont like shit on the deck. IMHO extra weight isnt a concern when, whatever it is, is tucked away nicely in its own place below deck.

First off Lifeline batteries are great batteries. As for the gel or AGM batteries, you need to really have a proper charger system installed. It is very easy to over volt these batteries and then they are toast. I would stick with lead acid batteries anyday, personally. I am going on six years on my battery system, two 12 volt trojan starting, four 6 volt Trojans for my inverter and four 6 volt trojans for the house. All battery banks are isolated and also able to combine.
