Trailer woes!

Anyone ever add a second axle to trailer?
I have a EZ Loader trailer for a 20' CC. I checked with the MFG and they sell one with two axles and its 2 inches longer than my current trailer.
I picked up another axle. Its the exact same. No leafs, torsion susp.

any help!

Why are you adding another axel? I dont think you can just "bolt on" another axel. You have to have just enough tongue weight on the bumper so that you lead the trailer down the road and not the other way around. Is this the original trailer? Give some more info, maybe there is another solution. Frank

Thanks Frank,

I want to add another axle more for peace of mind and redundancy. Plus, maybe trips to Mexico. It is the original trailer.
My trailer is 21' 5" long. The tandem axle version from Ez loader is 22' 7"/+1' 3", if that helps! What the heck is /+1'3"?

I checked with a local trailer repair shop and they offered to do it, but they always gunz want too much!
Well, if that doesn't work out. Maybe someone has one they want to get rid of?

A lot of guys pull Boats that size with a single axel to Baja. The trick is to make sure everything is new and you have plenty of spare parts. The other thing I would watch out for would your spring weight VS load weight. If your trailer wont absorb the bumps on the road, because the springs arent loaded enough, your boat will. Ever notice how a truck doesnt ride good until its got some weight on the springs.

Ez loader, its not a galvanized bolted together trailer is it? Its fine for here, not for Baja IMHO. Is your trailer in good shape? Maybe you could sell it, and get a stronger one. Frank

I towed it to LA Bay Baja years ago when the trailer was still considered new. Every stop, I checked the tires and they were
hot!. I still perfer 4 wheels instead of 2.
The trailer is galv and bolted and probably needs to be serviced in the near future. Any recommended shop?

Aros Trailer in El Cajon. Expensive but they are good. They may even give you advice and just sell you all the parts.
Good Luck, Frank
