Boat blue book?

Does anyone know or have any ideas on how get a fair asking price for a small boat. Its a 18' center console on a trailor and was thinking of selling it. Besides looking for something close to it in the boat trader or other boat selling forum, was wondering if anyone has ever come across anything that might be helpful, internet or magazines.

Thanks

Re: Boat blue book?

There is NADA but for anything but near new it sucks. I still think the boattrader.com site is the best comparison as it can vary from parts of the US.

Re: Boat blue book?

Yeah, NADA is the only thing I have seen. I think many of the boats for sale out there use this as a guideline as well, unless, like Kurt said, they are pretty new or have new equipment.

Re: Boat blue book?

I've seen stuff older than 90 list for like 800 bucks when no way in HELL are you gonna find something like that in a City near the water unless it's just been hurricaned.

That books depreciation formula is rancid for anything but newer stuff.

Re: Boat blue book?

Kurt's probably right about that. And boat trader online should give you a bunch of comparisons quickly, which is very useful. Alot like getting "comps" for house appraisals or setting price before selling. The online NADA guide for boats is here. It's still good info to know, should you get into a haggling match; at least you will know where the other person is coming from when he low balls you.

Here's another "Blue Book" type of agency:
http://www.bucvalu.com/

These guys provide a vehicle history service like carfax.com does (obviously not useful for your immediate need - I just thought it was cool to know about):

Crap! Sorry Kurt, I misunderstood you on your first post and misquoted you, my bad. I guess I haven't had as much experience with it as you have.

Re: Boat blue book?

Ha, I'm no expert just dealing with what I have bought and sold over the years. Do yourself some compares and check a boat from say, 1985 or so then go see what NADA has to say about it. Then take some samples around 90, etc. and I think you'll see.

Re: Boat blue book?

Thanks Kurt & Gary,
I think I'll beable figure out a price between the two sites. Hate to get rid of the boat, but since I have to I don't want it to sit around, waiting to make a few bucks. Sell it and be done with it .

Thanks !!
