Re: buying a boat

What are you looking to use it for? Offshore, local kelp, Islands, bay? There's a lot of different boats for different needs.

They're a little uncommon out here, but take a look at Edgewater ( http://www.ewboats.com ). Johnston Yacht Sales in Newport Beach sells them. Very dry, good ride. I have a 17.5 footer (now discontinued), but they also sell 18.5 and 20.5 foot versions of the hull. You can see my boat, and also find out more about performance, quality of construction, long-term issues with the boat on my website:

http://www.oceanskiffjournal.com

I would also place Parker, McKee Craft and Boston Whaler high on the list, if you've got the budget. They're all sort of in the upper-middle end of the price range. The EW is probably the least expensive of this group.

Here's my boat:

Re: buying a boat

Take a look at what Allison has. He has the Strippers and Anglers. He has them with outboards, I/O gas and I/O diesel's.

For price, ride, rigging, handling, RIDE, the Wellcraft and Strippers hold themselves very well.

If you go outboard, get the biggest one you can and make it an E-Tec.
