Tune Up

Okay i know how to tune my Gibson, but i know didley squat about tuning the 1987 88hp Johnson on the Whaler i just got a couple of months ago.
Any recommendations for a good outboard mechanic?

Sunset Marine in Oceanside might be the closest Johnson mechanics. Sea Witch Marine in Vista might work on it too, but they are no longer Johnson/Evinrude dealers.

Yourself, if you are mechanically inclined. If its running ok: plugs, impeller, fuel filter...you're done. If its running rough: plugs, impeller, fuel filter, carb adjustment (see manual), fresh fuel...you're done. Not to take away from the expertise of marine mechanics, but thats basically all there is to an outboard tune-up.

Take it to Sunset Marine in Oceanside. They are the only guys I'll let wrench on my boat. Ask for Doug or Derrik.

I AGREE WITH BARRACUDABREATH HAD THE SAME MOTOR ON THE 17 CC MOTOR WAS SIMPLE RAN FOR EVER .ONLY RAN ROUGH CARBS NEEDED REBUILDING OTHER THAN THAT GREAT MOTOR.
