My GPS on the last to runs out has taken a good 30 minutes to aquire a signal from the satlelites. And while running, it will loose the signal, and of course take forever to re-aquire. The only thing that I can think of that possibly could be a factor. Is that on the base of the antenna there is a crack on the shaft that screws down on the stand. Any thoughts out there???

Don't think it would have anything to do with the base or the crack, sound like an internal problem with the GPS itself, check with Max (Spanish Mack) he's pretty knowlegable on this sort of thing.

Check/clean the cable connection on the antenna, if there is a connector. Clean the pins and connector on the back of the GPS. Sounds like an antenna problem. Corrosion might be creating some resistance, or be loose and wiggling about a bit while bouncing around under way. Does it stay locked longer sitting on the trailer/in the slip?

Had the same thing happen. Cleaned the antenna connection and it's all fixed.

Well I have not really did a test run in the ocean yet, I did the corrsion x stuff on all connections on the boat. Someone mentioned that a low battery could have an effect on the gps. So i experimented. I put the charger on, saw that the level was quite low, but still strong enough to start the motor. I unplugged the charger, turned on the gps,......waited......waited........15mins still no love. I then plugged in the charger, came back after the battery was about 3/4 charged. Turned on the gps........4 mins...she up and working..HMMMMmmn SOOoooooo battery power could be vital to good running electronics.

You'd think 12V is 12V. And electronics doesn't draw much current. But it makes a difference.
