| Recommendation for Sea Ray 255 Amberjack
I have a 1984 Sea Ray 255 Amberjack powered by a new 350 Mercruiser EFI. Power on the boat is excellent, however it doesn't seem to get on plane or cruise at a decent pace. Recently, it has been slipping out of gear at 3500+ RPM. Anyone have any suggestions on what may be going wrong?

Since it's a recent repower I'd check the shift linkage adjustment. And..... check to see if you're getting proper advance in the distributor. Different engine might need a reprop.??? JJ

When we repowered our 250 Coastal, same engine, we went through the same thing, took us a while to get it all re-adjusted on the linkage, and like Jack said, we had to re-prop her.
Hey Jack, Happy Belated Birthday man.

Slipping out of gear, happened once to me, ended up I had a spun prop hub. Once the engine hit a certain speed, it was just enuf' to spin the rubber center hub.

Good advice here - be sure to check the linkage before you try this again. If you're slipping the clutch at those RPM's then you'll be doing an OD rebuild instead of a cable adjustment.... my $.02
