out of state boat purchase

Anyone have any luck with buying a boat out of state and having it shipped back? There are some great deals on new boats on the East Coast, but how to get the boat back to San Diego is the trick..

yes, that is very true. Either tow it, or have it shipped from 2000$- 3500$

boat shipping........

I had a 28' twin diesel with a 10'6" beam shipped from North Carolina to San Diego last November. The boat weighed over 13,000 lbs. and fully insured the cost was 6K. The tower was shipped in the cockpit and the upper helm station with the hydraulics was under the hardtop forward of the windshield in a cradle secured to the tower legs. Other than a broken compass on the upper console and a couple scratches in the cockpit it arrived in great shape. I would recommend the shippers: http://www.interstatehaulers.com/

Can't think of who it was, but someone just brought one back from Florida last week, I'm sure he'll chime in here. He just posted within the last few day's.

The thing you have to watch out for, theres a lot of boats with hurricane damage from Florida that are being offered very cheap.

Hey Gary, one of them was me, Im still pondering if it will be worth it. I will positively have a 22 ft Grady by this weekend, just which one remains a mystery until Friday.

sea pro 206, t-top, yamaha 150, dual batts, etc...

Hipp wants 40k for this boat. Found a dealer in North Carolina who has them for 31k (inc tax) with all the same options.

It's just the deal with flying out there, picking one, and getting it back. I found a hauler that charges $1 per mile. So a total of $2500 in shipping. That's a total of 33.5k. Or a uhaul is about 700 plus fuel if you do it yourself.

Purchased my boat last September, Plantation Key. Did offshore delivery for tax purposes and just got it home a few weeks ago. This is the fourth boat I have purchased out of Florida. I only had one shipped, (28 Skipjack). I drove the rest. There is a boat in every other driveway down there and I find that you can get a pretty good deals. Example: 1984 Diesel Skipjack stuck in Palm Gardens Florida; Purchase price $24,500 - Sold 4 years later here in So. California for $44,000... To me if you plan your boat buying around your vacation, you can't go wrong. Any BDers making the trip, I have killer spots off of Key Largo for Mutton & Grouper. These are secret spots I will share only because you can only fish them a few times. If your going PM me for the Lat Longs...

Also let me know if you have any q's about the trip, permits, whatever...
