| ?'s Skipjack 25 pilot & volvo41b &dp
Can any owners of skipjack 25 pilot house powered with a volvo 41b and duprop let me know what kind of fuel burn this package delivers with this hull?
what is wot
have heard following - max 27-28 nm @ 3500rpm wot not sure of burn...
at approx 20 naut miles (which is just on plane)miles 5-6 gph.
That's surprisingly efficient. Want to check with some owners.
also any words of wisdom for somone looking to own this particular vessel. What to look for etc etc. A bit disappointed there's no small galley in this vessel, but I'm kind of over it. I like the pilot over the sporfisher i think...depending on what diesel power is offered. A sportfisher with a d4 would catch my attention.
I have a 20 ft 67 skipjack now. Love this little boat. It's built like a sidewalk but better. Would like to stick with the skipjack name. Have a 2 and 4 year old and need a bigger boat...

I show that redline for this engine (41P) is 3800 rpms, so if the boat's propeller is matched right it should reach this with a full load of fuel, bait tank, etc. Preferably it should be more like 3900 to account for more weight, sea conditions, etc. If this guy has been running this boat and only obtaining 3500 WOT for an extended period of time, you need to find out why this is so and determine if it might be detrimental to the engine's expected life.

These are the numbers from my 262 if this helps. Flowscan installed. KAD44 with DPE running 1.68 gears and C2 props loaded for offshore runs. 19-20 knots @ 3200 RPM burning 1.8-1.9 MPG....Trolling speed = 7 knots @ 1100 RPM burning 2.2-2.3 MPG......WOT= 25 knots @ 3600 RPM burning 1.9-2.0 MPG

Ditto what Tom says about WOT RPM being too low @ 3500. Depending on how long it has been run with this prop setup it would concern me. Being a Skippy (fishing boat) you know that it has not been run at low RPMS other than trolling so those hours at cruise RPM or above are not good for the engine. If there was a prop change I would want an idea of the previous prop size and how many hours it has been run on the current too large props. Also I would want verifiable records that the aftercooler, oil cooler and turbo have been maintained/serviced in addition to "regular" service stuff like oil and coolant changes. A 'B' motor is no spring chicken so maintenance through its life is important. Good engine if taken care of.
