26' Striper WA with 5.7L I/O

Thinking about getting a used one here, it has a 5.7L Volva Penta, 123 gal tank.

Anyone have experience with this motor, wondering how dependable and what kind of mileage it will get.

Nice boat with Tuna Tower but Electronics were all stolen.

Any thoughts? Experiences?

HH

Your basic smallblock Chevy 350, very dependable and super easy and cheap to get parts for. Never owned a Striper, but I do know they are bad ass boats. I would say you'd probably get about 2-2.3 mpg at near WOT. Take the leap!

I have a 2101DC Striper that is I/O with the 5.0..which is the same block but a bit smaller than the 5.7... Engines are awesome.

You should search BD and look at the threads Outboards vs I/O's...There is alot of great info... Especially in the used boat market.

My friend has the same boat & I've fished it for a couple of years now. We usually cruise the boat at about 30 mph weather permiting and get great mileage, I would say it is upward of 3.5 miles to the gallon. Under the right conditions we can get even better mileage. Best mileage I've seen on that size boat next to a diesel. I say go for it! It's a great ride!

Mike,

IN MY OPINION, For the money, Stripers are the best Value out there. Yes you can spend alot more money and get alot nicer boat...You can spend less money and get less boat.

Value- Good Boat at a good price, that meets the needs of most West Coast Fisherman...its tough to beat.

The best website for Striper info is

Striper Owners Club which is a Striper Owners forum..

I have had my boat since Sep 2006...Am I 100% Happy with the boat. No. There are few small things I dont like, but I new that before I bought it. Do I regret buying it...Nope...

I am happy with my boat. I have about 350 hrs on it. A few minor problems which were taken care of under warranty. The usual maintenance items on a boat. I did do some damage to the engine coupler due to some kelp, but that was covered under Insurance. Thats the danger of running at night.

I would go in a ride first. They will slam. I think the deadrise is 18deg.

In general good economy means flat and flat boats ride like shit in the ocean. Its a trade off.
