The skippy has a pilot house at present. Home built but not too bad a job by the previous owner. For me though the windows are too large and , along with a few other details, I was thinking of doing modifications this winter. That got me to thinking......why not rebuild it the way I want it. So, if I rebuild it from scratch, what is the advantage of pilot houses with an out swept windshield, flare out from bottom to top. as opposed to the inswept winshield, like a car?
Is it strictly looks? Does it help keep fog/mist from settling on teh glass?

2 reasons one pertains to you one may not, the first is the glare "inverted tinted windows" help sun glare otherwise known as "Portugese windows"
2nd could apply in the wrong scenario, since most all our boats at least on this site pop over and above the swells (there not displacement hulls)we rarely take breakers over the bow, NOW IF you ever plan to fish the best area in the world for alba as I did thus driving my 40 foot party boat from SD to the Washing state and fish every of shore of every single port on the western hemisphere except for about 3 or so this would apply, up there and I mean starting with not so much Morrow bay, or halfmoon bay but further up lets say Newport or worse off Garabaldi bar, or the allmighty Columbia river where my boat is now, there is a problem with these rivermouths and breakers I mean hary stough and I have surfed pipeline, breakers can come over bow and knock out windows a 40 foot party boat did so in the Columbia and glass(strait glass windows) went through and cut the deckhands face 70,000 suit The inverted windows I HEAR THIS IS ALLEGID THEY take beter poundings now mabey you wont ever go there but mabey one day you will go to fast going west or nw or sw in a tight seas which we have down here alot the waves still could come over bow hope this helps plus by the way it looks cool and professional oh also USE LEXAN SERIOUS SAFETY GLASS WORKS BUT LEXAN IS BEST AND REMEMBER CLEAN LEXAN WITH A SOFT CLOTH do not use paper towls they scratch I did on my main window and side window
What do you like Lou?.........when you get ready to build it give me a call....I have some material you might like to use......
Forward swept/Portuguese style looks cooler, thats important isn't it! Thanks For teh offer Frank, what kind of material do you have? Probably be about 2 months till I get on it.

fog, mist, and rain problems use rain-X. I never had a need for wipers- beads off instantly
lexan... you've got to be kidding me. Let me know if you need advise on the windows. I have made my own and purchased custom ones. You'll save about 75% if you make them yourself. Glass around 400.00 rubber around 175.00 on the other hand, custom around 350-400 a window
i agree with the OP. make one yourself..not many smaller size boats make pilot houses and if they did its inboard and a gas guzzler....for my taste that is
When I think pilot house, the Portegese windows is the classic look. I agree that a back swept windshield would take up more room inside.Your boat looks good now, can't wait to see it after the new house is on
Just my opinion.............but I think you'll find most of the sport boats and really good looking pilot houses have windows that are more rectangular with the short leg up and down.......or at least square but on the smaller side.
Agree with what others have said regarding advantages of a forward rake
