Post Great OMC Stern Drive Repair Shop

Anyone know of a good OMC repair technician/Shop near San Diego? Wanted to get a quote on a complete seal kit for my stern drive. Any help is much appreciated.

Can you just get the kit and do it yourself? I did it myself on my Cobra and saved a lot of $$$$

Well considering I live in a studio aparment I really don't want to be spilling oil and r&r ing a stern in my kitchen. But the thought has crossed my mind.

I would not put a dime into that outdrive. Take it off and toss it and find a used Volvo 290 outdrive. You will be way better off in the long run....believe me I have been thru this with an OMC outdrive before.

I don't mean to be a dick Matt but considering this economy who really has a couple grand to slap into an outdrive. The thing leaks a little water. Just want to re-seal it up. She runs great man. Shifts like a champ. Quite as well. When she takes a crap then yeah I'll think about another outdrive but I just really wanted to know if there was a good shop down there in SD so I don't have to haul her back up here to Gardina to get the work done.

Sorry Capt Phil..didn't want to piss you off. I just had a skippy with an OMC that I fixed and sealed several times and ended up buying a used Volvo OD for the amount I put into my old OMC...just my .0 cents. Good luck in whatever you do bro and good fishing to you and your crew..

Matty

I did hear that outdrive exchange in costa mesa has a shit load of experience with all outdrives. Maybe give them a call.

Not a problem man. I would love to just a complete assm to tell you the truth but don't have 8k just lying around. Wanna get rid of the lame OMC motor as well. Thing just purrrrrrrs though. She treats me right thats for sure. I just don't want any more salt water in my gear case. I'll probably end up taking the thing apart in my kitchen again which I really don't want to do. I mean the seal kit is only 60 bones max.

I'm having work done right now on my omc inboard/outboard by K&H Marine in Orange, ask for Bob, very nice, reasonable, reputable guy. I know it's a drive but might be worth it to talk to him and get a ballpark rate.

This is an older post. Maybe sold but I see adds like this one once in a while. Even if you had to some work on it for $300 not bad. Thats how I found the one I bought.

Matty

There is also a newer DX 290 on this board for sale for $1750.00. That is a real good one
