Are your rod holders bolted or Screwed on?

I have never owned a boat that does not have the rod holders thru-bolted.
I have always taken for granted that all boats are made that way. Well, after last weekend, I would never assume that again!

If you are fishing on a boat you are not familiar with, check to make sure his
rod holder are bolted and not just crew-on. It would suck to hook-up on a troll to see your gear and the f'ing rod holder go into the drink!

So true!!! I still think old school and use a strap on all my rods.

Mine are welded on but I also worry about the big- one taking the gear!!!

No matter how solid your rod holders appear to be, it is still a very good idea to use a safety line/strap on all trolling rods.

Use a strap.
bolt if you can get to backing.
I had a strap save a rig on an alby strike the other day because a tight drag pulled the barket screws through a piece of stainless on a slip in holder.

kidding aside...I find it un-acceptable that a "fishing boat" manufucture would
f'ing screw in their rod-holders. It's Mickey Mouse at best.
