HELP! My rebuilt velvet drive is tighter than a virgin!!

I'm "hoping" it's normal for the drive to be pretty damn hard to turn since I just rebuilt it, and the seals need to be broken in, right? Also, the damn pump has me confused- my engine, when looking at it from the flywheel, turns LEFT, so that's an counter clockwise, or opposite, or left hand engine right? So do I have to line up the arrow on the velvet drive pump with the engine rotation?

I can't help you with the pump but you are correct on the rotation! Counter clock ways is the standard when viewed from the flywheel. There is a correct way for the pump to go but either way you set the pump for right or left rotation will not change the way the propeller turns. Stop by and I will give you the $25 for your membership at Boat Diesel If it is a 72C just stop by and look at mine.

Oh believe me, I built it by the book- I'm not fucking around with something that important so I can break down 30 miles out! I think it's just the seals and everything fitting together so tight, just needs to be broken in.

Also Dennis, I understand that the pump has to be clocked to allow for operation depending on the engine rotation (in my case I put the pump arrow that is pointing RIGHT (as you look at it) in the up position, to allow for my stupid reverse rotation engine. SO you're saying the tranny will not change rotation? So since I got a rev rotation engine, I still have to get a left hand prop? Damn Dennis, you paint me as a tightwad - maybe I'll join boatdiesel one day......

you have a normal rotation engine with a timing chain if it rotates left looking from the flywheel end. my velvet drive memory is poor but they only made 1 cr gearbox and its the 2/1 model?

Thanks Ben, yeah so I do have a counter-rotating mill. Not sure about the CR velvet drive though.
