| bait bag vs bait tank.............
Which should i go with? I have a 1977 24' Sea Ray that came with the bait bag mounts on the transom. I went to purchase a bait bag set up and the salesmen who was a long time fisherman said if there was any way i could fit a bait tank into the boat to go with one because they are far superior for keeping bait alive. The only place i could mount one would be the swim step. I would like to hear what you guys think is the best setup before i make a decision......thanks, here a couple pictures of what the boat looks like. This is not my boat (this one is equip'd much nicer) but the same thing. I believe the guy who owns this one is a bloodydecker; as you can see he has two bags.

I'd have to agree with salesguy, there is much less [undesired] water movement with fixed tanks thus the bait does not get beat up as bad.

I agree with Derek, Run two smaller tanks on the swim step. I did this on my last boat and worked out great. I ran a Y fitting from the pump and ran it to both tanks. The boat was balanced, and best was that I could either split the bait between tanks for better life, or 1/2 scoop one side and stop and fill up the other with macs.
If you decide to use one big tank and offset it to one side, you might need to use trim tabs (on a 24 I am assuming you have them)

I just built a swim platform with a tank on the back of my boat and I love it. I can leave some types of bait for up to two weeks and they are still alive. The trick is to not have any holes in the bottom of the live well or the water leaks out when you are on a plan. Here's a picture, I think you can see the live well. It's in the middle of the back. |

matty.........yes i do have tabs; i was thinking of running one bigger one in the middle, but two smaller ones would probably be better.

My buddy had a bag on the back of his sail boat, and the fuckin seagulls would actually sit on the frame and try to catch dines as we were fishing! Provided some entertainment with a slingshot though....

I had a bag setup on one older boat. The side rails were plastic and would constantly break. I hate bait bags. Finally got rid of it and got a Kodiak tank. Better by far. Better flow and no more issues.
