| Power trim died, help
My 2001 Yamaha 115 power trim crapped out. I figured this was coming as it has been leaking hydraulic fluid. That tells me the seals need replacing. I filled it back up with fluid hoping that I could at least get it to trim up and down and still no go. It's stuck in the up position. The trim motor runs but it's not moving the rams up or down.
Do I need to bleed air out? How?
Is it not compressing fluid because the seals are that worn out?
Does any one have a tutorial on how to replace the seals? That sure would be helpful.

Sounds like you need to bleed... Fill with fluid and find the fitting that is highest up, crack it and operate the trim until you get just fluid and no air bubbles. The motor should go down when you crack the right fitting.

Had the same problem with 2000 Honda 90. Seals leak and I filled it back up with fluid. Then it locked in the up position. Motor would run but wouldn't compress. I just opened the filler cap and that bled all the air out and haven't had a problem. Still leaks 2 years later but still have the same bottle of fluid. I know there is a manual release valve on mine but it it frozed solid. The filler cap seems to work to bleed out the air. I just lifted it up and down with the cap off and that got all the air out and then filled it full. Put the cap back works fine.

use the manual release valve to lower, read the owners manual
then try to raise up
but make sure the fluid is full before u lower it
also lucas stop leak for transmission will work for a band-aid

On my 200hp Yamaha the valve is on the starboard side of the transom clamp.Use a straight screwdiver to release the valve to open.

Put a strap on the thing to keep it from dropping too quickly and smashing someones toes or your skeg and prop

Ok, got it bled out and working again, but it's still leaking. I'll eventually need to replace the seals. Anybody got a tutorial on how to do this? What tool do I need to remove them?

Spanner wrench to loosen the top of the cylinder (I was creadtive and used a pipe wrench). After that it's mostly nut and bolt removal to get to the cylinder, open up and just get new seals from Yamaha. Re-assemble and new fluid and you're good to go. Pretty simple job really. I believe the system is self bleeding, but I'll have to check that.
