| Yanmar 4LHA-STZE enough power for Skipjack 262?
I am looking at a Skipjack 262 which was re-powered in 1999 with a Yanmar 4 cylinder diesel: 4LHA-STZE. It has a new bravo 3 drive.
It's rated at 230 HP and I think it's direct inject and super turbo charged. Anyway, is this enough power for that boat? I may be wrong, but most of the Skipjacks I've seen with Yanmars have the 6 cylinder model. Any 262 owners on here with the 4 cyl Yanmar? Your input would be especially appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
John

i service a couple of hourston 26 with the 4lh/bravo package, its plenty of power.
the only gripe i have is the yanmar isnt built for tight engine rooms. its a compact little powerplant but put it in a tight space and the service costs go up.
if you buy a bravo3 pull the props and paint the carrier, prime it with zinc chromate then finish with phantom black. bye bye corrosion problems. 26' ISLAND RUNNER |

Hi John,
I've been on a 26' foot Skipjack with the four cyl turbo charged Yanmar and it has plenty of power. We had four adults on board and it accelerated and came up on plane with out any problem, with power to spare. It seems like a good package to me.

Hummmm, I happen to own a 262 with a KAD44 which has a listed output of 260HP and when loaded the power is marginal. I have gone over this issue with many people including the man who built the boat and 300+ is a better choice for the boat. The choice of power in my opinion is the D6-310 or an equivalent in a Yannie. And you experts can hold your opinions that my boat is not propped correct because I happen to own C2's thru C4's and have ran the boat to death with every combination imaginable. Bottom line is when the 262 is loaded it needs the power! I can run 30 knots all day with no fuel, passengers, empty bait tank and such but the reality is when "loaded down" for offshore use 18-20 knots is a good cruise.

My 26 with KAD43 rated at 225 cruise best at 22 knots...no lambo, but plenty of power with 40 gallons of water and a 65 gallon bait tank.

Good point Ed. Nothing wrong with a little extra power-Nothin worse than not enough.

Hey Ben, is there a Fleetguard or Baldwin oil filter that works on that Yanny? No one seems to be able to pull up the crossover # for me?

if this is your filter part # 127695-35150 then you need a LF4017
if not check this website for a crossover, heck check it anyway to be sure and for other filters. http://www.cumminsfiltration.com/pdf.../cr_number.pdf |

Thanks Ben! You guys have to figure in the weight of the Volvo. Nearly Double that of the Yanmar. Those Volvo's are great engines but it takes more power to push all that Iron. I had two Identical Skipjack 25's a few years ago. One with the Volvlo 43 and one with the Little Yanny. They rode like two differnt boats. The Volvo boat squatted lower in the stern, rode real solid and sat in the trough nicely. The Yanny one sits with the bow down a tad(hard to steer strait in the 5 MPH zone) and doesn't squat down as nice in the trough. But it Jumps up on plane easier and Hauls ASS. The heavier Volvo kinda acts like ballast and made that boat sit nicely. So I moved the Batteries as far back as I could and kept the Yanmar ride. The extra speed, smaller Doghouse and better fuel economy made it a no brainer. So what I'm saying is that it takes more Horses to push moreweight
