Here what your saying, but condensation would prevail anyway you look at it, deal with ethnol is it make the water that is heavier than gas, that normaly would be at the bottom of the tank, thus why they say never run around with a low tank, cause you'll suck up all the crap in it.
So ethnaol adsorbs the water, mixes with fuel, but when it goes in the combustin process it doesn't burn, it will build up in the chamber and cause a hydro lock and something then has to give, your rod, piston, hole on piston , crank thru block!
And when left to sit in the engine like most boats do after use, water causes rust, and deteriation. Sorry for the spelling no spell check on the iPhone
