| Measure 50 Times, Cut Once!!!
Well, after removing 20 years of Mickey Mouse wiring and plumbing, pulling the steering and control unit, and unscrewing the center console I was ready to cut the floor. Measuring from every hole in the center of the deck, I got a pretty good idea of the spacing for the fuel tank between the stringers. Not comfy with using a Skill Saw on the floor, I went and bought a Roto-Zip. What a tool. I penciled the cut out needed, and went to town! I was amazed at how well it went. A couple hours of sweat and powdered fiberglass/sawdust, and there lay the culprit. A aluminum tank laying on some old carpet glued to the stringers. The hose clamps holding the filler hose and vent hose were solid rust, broke off really easy. The fuel outlet was so corroded, that when I removed another rusty clamp and twisted , it broke off in my hand. Hey, other Invader owners, is the stock tank aluminum? It looks like the floor had been cut out before. Or do they install the tank at the factory and use a one piece floor? Going to have the tank cleaned and pressure tested at my friends radiator shop.A little rot on the wood outside and inside of the stringers, but not serious. Got some starboard from a buddy, Thanks Chuckles. Once I get the tank back, I'll post some pics, and have a million questions on re-doing the plumbing and wiring. Anybody got a clean 100 horse motor? A newer console would be great! There is a square cooler converted into a bait tank. Small, and looks like it would kill bait just like the square Igloo conversion I had. A console with a integral round tank would be best. It has twin seats, maybe a leaning post with a built in tank?? Thanks for the previous input guys, it really helped out a lot.
