Always worked for me when I put both ice chests in the cabin.
Actually, I stuck on cooler in the cabin and one just behind the seats. It is a nuisance when the cooler slides backwards when underway, but I've been on smaller boats where there was so much clutter you were restricted to either just sitting in one place or hoppin' over stuff. One cooler on deck in my 20 ft Trophy wasn't so much in the way, even when we had triple hook-ups. Just one kick gets it out of the way! !!

Sea Scum, and debris

is exactly what you will get in your bilge if you bypass those holds/lockers. Yes they will drain after the day but eventually fish scales will tax your bilge pump and when you really need it it may not work. Why not have your bilge clean.

Good advice and tips from those helping on this. My newer trophy was a different set up but those with the older trophys have helpful advice.

All are good options except screwing down and buying coolers. and I agree the design isn't the best but one but can live with these engineering flaws. I use a shop vac to clean those lockers before trips and my clean screens and pumps work flawlessly after 1 bad pump and 6 years.

The basic rule is never use a tool for anything other than its intended use.
butter knife for a screwdriver etc...

This is what your doing when you alter a design and tax your bilge pump in the process. A macerator is an upgrade and good solution or get the original design to work in the meantime.

Thanks for the input on those who are helpful. Thats what these posts should be about. thanks

I still strap a 120 qt cooler to the bow port side with plenty of ice but i don't like clutter on the deck.

The mercerator pump works great and I did not mount it in the original pump location. Way to hard to get to.

I should have put a larger opening but didnt want to cut the boat up. If I have to do it again I will cut a bigger access hole.

Reducing the fitting on the inlet only shouldnt hurt the pump but definetly go bigger than the original size hose from the holds.
Maybe I'm still missing something. Our fish boxes drain outside, not to the bilge. Does your's drain to the bilge? If that is the case I can understand having a macerator to drain the boxes, because you definatley don't want that crap in the bilge.

Thanks Guy for the help. Sea Scum, the problem is my holds are not pumping out right now and I'm trying to fix the problem.

T-Shark, This is the kind of pump I have on it now. As you can see it has two hoses going to a "t" and then one hose to the pump. I'm guessing the motor is the one on top but not sure what the white section is. I have to assume that maybe the black one is the motor and the white one houses the pump. Is this the kind you guys are saying screws off and has a screen? Do I have to unscrew it from the floor and if so is there ony two screw (thats all I can see but cant get behind it)?

Yes the black part is the motor and the white is the pump. That pump is a little different than the one I originaly had.
The pump you have does not have the screen that we are talking about.

I ran 1" hoses from the holds to a 1" T-fitting and stepped up from 1" on the T-fittting to 1-1/2" hose to the pump(Mercerator) and went with a 1" hose out the side of the hull. I also have plugs for either side of the holds. If I want to plug one or both off.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, don't want to seem like such a dullard, just trying to understand your situation. Anyway, here is a pic of my boats drain system. On our boat we have two drain systems. One similiar to yours but with a macerator and the other that has two plugs (not shown) below waterline to fill or drain the fish holds. To fill, simply stop the boat and unplug. To drain, move the boat forward and gravity and suction drain. The macerator (red and white thingy in the middle of pic) is just below the bilge pump with 2" hoses T'd to a common hose that attaches to the macerator, then it drains outside above waterline. Even with 2" hoses with this system, it gets plugged and then you have to remove the hoses and macerator to unplug. Just a big pain in the ass. Think of it as a 12v garbage disposer, practically useless unless you are just pumping water and blood. Pump fish scales or other solid matter and you will have a problem. Just something to think about and maybe help in your decision.
