Does the Cabo have Transom Mounted Rudders??

Does the Cabo 31 or 35 or any other sportfishing boat have rudders that bolt through the transom? Instead of coming through the bottom of the boat in the Lazerette?

I am trying to be convinced that these are the way to go and have no experience with them............???

Any ideas??

Hi Pence,

Yea it is for the new boat. The Builder thinks that they will allow a shallower shaft angle which will increase the boat speed. We are trying to get a 25 - 27 knot cruise speed, so shaft angle is critical. They look weaker than the heavy duty rudders they put on our other boat.

Here is the website about them: http://www.marinehardware.com/outboardrudders.html

I was looking at a Black Watch 26' last year @ the SD boat show. Asked the Aussie who represented the Co. about an inboard model instead of the in/out drive, as the boat would be slipped.

He told me it was doable with a vee type drive and the rudder mounted to the transom. Haven't seen a set up like this, but they must be out there.

rudders

The Cabo rudders are mounted on the hull.

The 29' Blackfin is one of few larger inboard boats I know of which has the rudders mounted on the transom. I owned for a number of years and had no problems.

Hey Clark,

Thanks,
I think we have this ironed out. Just trying to squeeze as much speed as possible out of the boat. We are going with "S" class props from ZF Marine. They are NC machined, hand finished five bladed NiBral - bad ass props

Hope it is all going you way.

Give me a ring with any questions about Cabo. My dad owns the whole company. Whats the name of your boat? The rudders on the 31 are inch and a half diameter (I think). The rudders are strong because their the same rudders that are going on the new 32. Those props should go well with that boat. The speed depends on the engines, load and seas. That boat should do the speed that you want it to do. If you have any questions with the boat, call the factory at 760 246-8917 and ask for allen. He should be able to answer any questions that you may have. Enjoy your boat!
