King trailers uses what they call "SLick Bunks"- it is a Polypropolene material that replaces the carpet on the 2 x 6 bunks. Works better than rollers. DO not unhoo the bow strap until you are at the water, as the boat can slide off.

I tried the silicon and it allowed the boat to come onto the trailer with minimum resistance. I still need to see if I can come off the trailer with the same ease.

A friend of mine told me that the Navy did these several years ago. They lost a few launches on the unload part. They changed the process and now never deal with carpet; at all.

It's a hard to learn upgrade. But it's well worth it for the larger boats. If you've got a smaller boat, keep what works for you.

I've seen a few hulls that the carpet ripped on the unload and the fasteners for the wood dug a trough in the hull on the way out.
