Unhappy Mercruiser 5.0 quesion

I have a 2005 Bayliner 205 with a Mercruiser 5.0 engine. Yesterday at the end of a day of fishing, the enginge began to "race" when I throttled up. It seemed like I was in neutral but I was in gear. I could take it to a slow cruising speed and was able to limp in but anything over 5mph it just revved out. I would liken this to a tranny slipping in a car. Any suggestions before I take this thing in and it sits in a shop for half the summer?

Any seaweed or kelp in the prop...that happens time to time? Hopefully, thats what it is. If not, PM me and I could explain what I had to do $$$$

Pull the prop and check your hub, or if you have a spare put it on and re-test it
