Looking For Bayrunner Cuddy Owners

I have a Bayrunner Cuddy 22 and am interested in sharing information on the boats. For instance what size motor do you run. Do you have the transom extension. I believe there is only a Cuddy 22 and 26 built from 1989-91. Anybody out there with one of these fine machines?

Here you go WarpDrive... 26' Cuddy Bayrunner.
I've only seen one or of these on the water, ever. I wonder if there are any still in existence?

I believe that there were some cuddy Bayrunners built prior to 1989. I want to say as early as 1986?
I believe that the first ones used the non-baja hulls like this one(the angle of the bow was much steeper)

Aguila,
That's funny, I still have that same brochure as the one you posted.
I've got a 1989 Bayrunner Baja cuddy that I've owned since 1996.

Used to have a 1984 20' cc Bayrunner. Similar to this one

My 22' cuddy was originally powered by a 2 stroke 130 Yamaha
Re powered it in 2001 with a 115 Mercury 4-stroke
I have the notched out transom that early on in it's life(due to corrosion issues) was rebuilt to a 25" transom instead of the standard 20" transom.
Tops out at 28kts, but I cruise at 20-21kts.
Still have and use the original Yamaha 9.9 4stroke kicker.
The original owner replaced the two level aluminum railings with a single level SS railing and added a teak pulpit and anchor roller.
96 gal. of fuel: Built in 60gal tank and two 18gal saddle tanks mounted under the gunwales.

Mid 90's model?

Have you had yours for a while?
I've owned a Bayrunner for quite a few years and know the positive and negatives about the two that I've owned.
Any questions?
Scott

I had a 23 Cuddy with a 130 Honda. I wish I had never sold it.

Hey that's my old boat. We ran the wheels off that boat back when it was called the Greyhound. Bought it new in Nov 1988 and sold it to IN2DEEP in 1996. Great seaworthy skiff that's been all the way to San Nicolas Island.

The transom got water in it on early Bayrunners and was replaced under waranty and fixed. If a Bayrunner has corrosion pin holes in the transom it hasn't been fixed.

I was told Bayrunner stopped production of the cuddys because they were too expensive to produce and they made no money on them.

Hey IN2DEEP thanks for all the info. I am a new partner in this boat. I'll post some photos when I can get them. My partner bought this hull in San Diego about four years ago. I believe our boat is a very early model and maybe a prototype. It is just like the cuddy in the upper right photo on the brochure. The transom is not notched out and there is an extension for mounting the motor. At least the earlier model hulls were manufactured by HUlls inc. There is a 22 listed for sale on Craigslist Baja that is advertised only as a hulls inc. IN2DEEP I do have an important question. WE are re-powering our boat and are considering a Honda Bf 150. The brochure lists the top HP for the Cuddy at 175. WE want to be able to make quick runs out to the Uncle Sam Bank and so want the speed to run and the power to drag all our fish back. We have trim tabs. Do you think a 150 is too big? I noticed that you went from a 130 to a 115.

Aguila,
Trim tabs really makes a big difference on this hull.
Motor weight should be taken into consideration. Remember that back when your boat was rated for carrying capacity and max HP there were only 2 stroke OB's at the time.
If a Honda 150 exceeds the weight of let's say a 2Stroke Yamaha 175, I'd think twice about hanging that much weight back there.
I'm not familiar on how the full transom w/bracket Bayrunners act and handle, but I can only imagine that having a full transom is a good thing.
With a 150hp, you should be able cruise effortlessly.
IMO, 90hp would be the minimum. 150hp is more than adequate.

My old Yamaha was listed as 352lbs (dry weight?)
The current Merc is listed as 386lbs.
Also, I have a 110lb kicker hanging back there.

I went from the 130 to the 115 because at the time, my choices (4 stroke)were limited to the Suzuki 140, the Honda 130 was priced much higher and physically, much bigger and heavier that the other OB's at the time.
The Yamaha 115 was available, but the Mercury 115(Yamaha powerhead) was around a $1000 less that the Yamaha.
So that's why I have the Mercury 115, but I wouldn't mind having a Yamaha 150 4S.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all that info IN2DEEP. I've been looking at pictures of your boat and looking at mine. My cuddy windows are different and the hull may be a bit different as well. It looks like my boat has more "chin" for lack of knowing the correct term. Do you think that my bow is a bit different as well? More forward curve? Here is a photo of the bow and my transom also. It is too early to be taking pictures but I wanted to share this much now.

Also notice that this boat has the splash guard just like the brochure. The boat has a second keel guard welded alon the lower portion.

IN2DEEP if you would'nt mind I'd like to ask another motor size question. I'm talking to as many people as I can But I would really like your thoghts on the 115 with this boat. We will always have a minimum of three people on this boat as that is what is required to beach launch in the surf here. Are you satisfied with the power of the 115. Do you think we would be with three aboard. I'd really like to hear yor opinion on this. If we can afford it we are also looking at the Suzuki df140 as it is 420 pounds. Not too heavy for its HP.

I always thought the DF140 would be IDEAL for that rig.
