| 2601 Stripper sea trial
Well, everything went OK. The tack is not callibrated, unless you think a Cummins diesel can spin to 6k+. Ain't happen'en. We could tell before we left the harbor it needed bigger props. We hit 41mph at full throttle. The rev limiter puts that at 3800rpm. That's 1mph less than the Volvo 210hp ran. The saleman has already ordered a set of props, two sizes up. He's thinking possibly 3-4 sizes up from what was on it (24 something going to 28), so we'll see. I can swap for free untill we get it right. I might buy an extra set just in case. $1200 is a little spendy though.
You can check the bouy sites to see what the water was like off Long Beach. The swell was big, with a decent duration. The wind chop was 1-2 foot. We still went straight uphill at 35 mph. Could we have done that with bait? Not unless we wanted it to die. It was comfortable though. I would have had no problem drinking a soda, you would just have to pick your sips.
Great boat. I'm thinking the Raymarine C80 for Radar,GPS and fishfinder (WestMarine, $3500 including Radom, transducer and GPS antenea). I know, all in one, what if you lose it? I'm getting a handheld radio w/gps and a handheld GPS. For fullsize radio, I'm thinking Icom or that other black one with a Galaxy 6db antenea. I also need to pick a stereo. I thought it came with one but they told me they order them without due to where the factory puts them. Whatever, I need a stereo and possibly a MP3.
Due to the weather being crappy, they put a 150' of rope, 25' of chain and a bruce knock off anchor on. He's throwing it in. I'll put it in a milk crate or something for a stern or backup. I still need a bunch of little crap like the ropes and bumpers.
I hope to be able to take it to the tower place in the next week or two. I'm getting quotes now.

Nice but unless you own a gilry bar you might want to take a "P" out. It's Striper, not "Stripper".

Personally I'd rather have 2,601 strippers but that's my opinion. BTW are you by chance located in Hemet?

You call it what you want and I'll call it what I want. I'd rather see a stripper, catch a stripper and ride a stripper than any stink'n striper you might come up with. Just don't tell the wife. I have not slipped and called it a stripper in front of her yet.
I'm not in Hemet but my Dad and friends are. Now that I will have my own boat, I'll be making a lot fewer trips to Hemet. They can drive to my house now. I just found out my schedule for the next year will be Tuesday - Thursday off! Nice. The only limit now will be how long I can keep a lot of bait alive.
I am upgrading the batterys and adding an extra for a total of three. I want to be able to run the C80, baitpump and anchor light all night long. Starting the motor in the morning will be a major plus. Push starting a cold stripper in the morning can be a bitch.

If I had the kinda money you have (or should I say had) I would put in a XM raidio not an MP3 then you can get all the info and music you want anywhere and move it from the truck to the boat and then back. The monthly fees art to bad. I don't have one but would like to. I will wait to put one of those in when I can aford it.

I've got enough payments without paying to listen to what someone else want me to hear. MP3 is a stretch for me but at least then I get to listen to what I want. I can load the thing up and go from there. I have a CD that I made that I've been listening to for 3 months. I don't want to end up like my satelite TV. I have every channel offered by DISH and there still ain't shit on.

Please give us more info on this motor. How many cylinders, hp, etc. Is it a Cummins or Merc by Cummins. What kind of drive? Is it a direct drive? Curious here.

It's a 4.2 6 cyl. Cummins engine. Mercury is using the Cummins for their diesels. It's mated to the Bravo 3 that has suposedly been beefed up for the diesel. I guess time will tell. It had 24p props and we ran out of pull at 35mph but still hit 41.5. The Volvo 210hp hit 42mph the previous week. My salesman is putting 26's on and taking it out by himself. Sunday we are trying the 28's. I'm thinking it should hit close to 50mph and still idle slow enough. It is a 90% increase hp and possibly more than that in torque. Slower speeds are just as important and the haul'n booty speeds. I want to be able to do 15 or 25 just as easily as 35-40mph. Can you imagine a smooth ride to the 1010 at 45 mph and 3+ mpg? There were a couple times last year when the fish were biting and it was pond like.
