cleaning board project

Well got my cutting board done...well kinda...know I am going to want to add to this...but came out real nice.

my material was a formica door found in the counters section at Home Depot.
About an inch thick and formica all around.

Fits nice and snug on the inside perimeter of my bait tank.

Did the cut test on the bottom side, and holds up real nice to sharp blades.

Thanks for the ideas guys

Nice board. May I a few suggestions?

1. Those corners are sharp. On a tossing pitching boat, those could leave a scar!
2. A door from the counter section at Ho-d'po is going to be made with material that is NOT water resistant. So in a relatively short time, it will begin to fall apart - delaminate.
3. Without a trim piece around the board, fish will slide right off when the board is wet.

I would strongly suggest that you make 4 trim pieces with a 1/2" deep dado (a groove in the middle) the same width as the thickness of the board. Miter the corners. Use epoxy in the grooves - THICK - to make the edge of the board water tight. This will allow the formica to act as the main water barrier to the innerds of the board, it will seal the board pretty well so it doesn't delaminate in short order, and - you can round the corners of the wood trim so you don't have lobotomy tools at all 4 corners if you slip and fall into it.

Very good start tho!

Was there a reason you decided against going with the starboard or cutting board material?? The stuff will last forever!!

No real reason before learning about that material I had bought what you see....actually that day....so for 9.00 bucks thought I would throw it together and see how it looked....I may go with the starboard material...Im sure its lighter as well

Gotcha!

It may not actually be lighter, in fact the stuff is pretty heavy.

Make sure if and when you do buy the material you get it at San Diego Plastics as they are far cheaper than anywhere else around.
