Steve | Ole Derrick got me good a few years ago on the sale of one of my boats. Him and his old lady suck! :FU:
I almost called Reggie when I heard he was going to let that crook sell his boats. Bet sales are good on the West Coast now :FU:
I hope you read this George :FU:

Derrick also just took over the Donzi and Pro-line dealer that was down in Newport on PCH. He treated me well, the boat was the problem.

Let me guess, your part of the family now. Up front, very nice guy. Once problems arise, that's when the fun starts. A good guy who treats you fine stands behind the claims made toward the item sold. Not this yahoo. RUN !!! LAST WARNING !!!!! So far you have heard from FORMER CUSTOMERS, FORMER EMPLOYEES, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FORMER VICTIMS !!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK !!!!

I am going with the 2601 SeaSwirl walkaround with the 310 cummins diesel. We are sea testing it 010305. I took the 210 hp Volvo out and we hit 42mph in pond like conditions. Tomorow is looking snotty as hell. Great boat test weather. I might go from Newport, up to Long Beach, to run around the Marine Stadium. That should make for a good loop.
About Derrick, I was planning on never going back after the sale was done. It was a 60 mile trip to his place and there are several boat shops in between him and me for service. I was very unimpressed with the boat. It NEEDS a duo prop and that one did not have one. I also don't like the way the gunwales meet the deck. The Stripper has a bigger cabin, more stuff and is 30k cheaper. It's also got a cummins instead of a yawnmore (yanmar).

It was not the engine, I think the prop was either wrong or spun. Derrick thought it had a spun prop but I never bothered following up. The Yanmar was louder than I thought it would be and it smoked more. I took out a 2601 Striper with a 210 hp Volvo diesel. It was quieter, less smoke and pushed a lot harder than the single propped Yawnmore. I'm really looking forward to the 310 hp Cummins tomorrow. The props look a little on the small side but each one is bigger than the single prop on the Fountain. I'll post as much info as I can about the new Merc/Cummins deal. If it's anything like the Cummins in my truck, it'll be great. It is a common rail injection system so it should be very quiet. I doubt I'll be able to push very hard tomorrow, the weather is looking bad. Good boat test weather.

| Take it out when its rough
I have a friend with that 2601 with the 210 diesel. Went on a 200 mile
albie run with him. I was not impressed with the ride at all. Felt like the hull
was a 1/4 of an inch think, you can feel every bump.It bounces not cuts through the water, had really seating for only two in any comfort.and not much of a berth. Im not sure how much time you plan to spend on the boat
at a time.Just think when your on your test ride if that boat has the comfort you want.At the end of our 15 hour fishing trip I realized there was no reason
for me to even ever consider recommending that boat to any one. Engine
was quiet, ran great, and we did get good gas milage.I think the milage is related to boat weight and that boat felt really light on the water. Remember
a 2 hour test ride in smooth water is a far cry from a 12 hour day in 2-4 with
with wind chop. just my 2 cents,,theres no way I would buy one..

Diesels can have several types of smoke. White smoke on startup is common with older model volvos, but it will clear out when the engine is warm. Blue smoke indicates a worn out engine- stay away. Some diesel will pump out steam, again not a problem. If a diesel is accelerarted too quickly, it will have a pulse of black smoke untill the turbo catches up to the amount of fuel added to the engine. This is a normal condition. The quickest way to tell if a marlin guy sees a fish is by the puff of black smoke. yanmar makes a good diesel. I have a 240 and it runs well and is fuel efficient. The cummins is a great product also. I would have went Cummins if it would have fit my boat.
Good luck with whatever boat you buy, just don't accelerate it like a gas hot rod. Bring it up slowly and keep it propped correctly. An overloaded Diesel will qrenade on you very fast.

I'm pretty familiar with Diesels, I'm a retired Teamster and have driven several types, 2 stroke and 4 stroke. The engine was good, it just seemed like an older technology diesel. The new ones are very clean. I did not so much as catch a wiff of diesel on the Cummins. Of course I was doing 40+ mph
