hmmmm....ok.
There's a lot of stuff on your list that reads - to me anyway - like "owner bought a really used boat and has no clue" issues.
This IS your first boat? (Your "Money Spent to get the Boat to a mantenance free state -Over $15K" kind of gives it away.)
But what the heck. Blame the mechanic for everything on your list. It is definitely a service industry that needs regulating.

I feel we should lighten up a little on Michael, he did have choices and probably didn't choose the right ones.
1. Should have done home work as to picking a qualified mech.
2. After the first experience with his choice maybe should have checked
around for someone else.
I feel sorry for Michael, hard earned money down the tubes. Sometimes things pop up after a repair that had nothing to do with the first repair. Shit happens.
A person that owns a boat should try to understand the the workings of their boat, I don't mean like major repairs, some of those should be left to the experts.
I think I'll make myself another drink.

"Boat doesn't make it to bait reciever . Intake Manifold now has whole in it around the Thermostat .
My New Carb has Salt water in it , Salt water in the Oil Pan , motor, Salt water all over Engine and new electrical Components in and around the Engine Compartment .
I have to take boat back in to shop ."
I don't really get this statement, how would you know if you got "water in the oil pan"? did the dip stick show the oil was milky? and it pretty much goes with out saying that if water is in the oil pan, the it's in the "engine" considering the oil pan covers about 75% of the engine. Spraying salt water "all over the electrical components" shouldn't hurt anything, shit it will happen pretty much every time you go out to some extent. the way you explain it he sounds like a duche but you need to gather some real knowledge about the stuff your having guys working so you are a informed customer, a well informed and knowledgeable customer rarely gets screwed IMO. If your going to be a captain/owner of a boat, it is in the best intrest of your crew and yourself to be or become a general mechanic. Do your best to lean in detail every system/component on your boat. before I got my boat I had a OB and didn't know shit about I/O's, now I'm a damn expert, iv'e replaced almost every component of my i/o system my self and now I feel so much more confident to go long for fish. If I didn't do most major repairs myself to my skippy, I would be in the poor house by now.

JEEZ! Take it easy on the guy. He made a mistake. OK the same mistake a couple of times. The "mechanic" did screw him around. Maybe the manifold was leaking into the lifter valley. Certainly bad for the motor to be sprayed down with saltwater and run with saltwater in the oil and let let it sit for a week. Very bad.
Kingfish has the best advice. Especially his last line.

Kingfish has the best advice. Especially his last line. | Not sure who your message is directed at, but I'm not being hard on him... just asking a simple question or two to try to understand the history better. Hell, I've been there and so have some of you, and I feel bad for Michael also.
But honestly, it's hard to be of help without knowing more... I'd certainly stay away from this mechanic in the future though! I could be wrong, but it sounds like you were taken from the get go!

Not directed towards you Dave. I agree with everything you have posted on this thread especially your statement that when someone wrenches on something of mine they only get one shot if they screw up they are done. If the guy had my boat for 5 months to rebuild the O/D he would have never see me again. While the OP doesn't say what else was done for $10K it better be a lot. I am not current on the price of a VP O/D unit but it seems you could get a new one bolted on for that kind of money given that the old one would have at least some value for parts.
I did get a kick out of Skipjack20s comment:
"Spraying salt water "all over the electrical components" shouldn't hurt anything,"
If that were true marine electricians would have a lot less work.

Ouch!!! A good friend who used to know him well told me to "Never EVER" take my boat to him.. I guess he kind of "LOST IT" a couple three years ago. Sniffin or somethin like that. Always "Holed up" and not answering the door at his shop or phone. I guess that he used to have a pretty good reputation back when. He's been retireing for three years now. Sorry to hear that you got caught up in his wreakage..
