Adapter for transom shield????

Do they make an adapter to convert the hole in the transom from a Volvo 280 drive to fit a Bravo 3 drive? If not, who's done this conversion and what's entailed?

If you are going to that extent why dont you ditch the drive and put in either direct drive or V-drive? I don't recall if you trailer or keep it in a slip? Anyway something to consider. I am not sure if there is a kit, our shop does the glass work and cut again.

I checked that route out, but it is too involved and the outcome is not worth it ... I spoke with someone who has done that conversion with this boat and the results weren't too stellar.

I'm looking at a 4.2L Mercruiser package with Bravo 3s. I haven't seen them yet, so I can't comment ... just want to make sure they'll fit and the drives will work without too much problem.

Since you have done the plug/glass job; what is involved in it and what would be an approximate cost to have it done?

Well, I think I found what I'm looking for. It's Mercruiser part number 827691A1, but it's around $800 each ... that's $1600 to do it with the adapters. The plate adapts an older Volvo hole to accept the newer Alpha or Bravo drives. Would the glassing route be as expensive or more? Here's a pic of the adapter plate.

Andrew, you can plug both those hole with a sheet of plywood, a gallon or two of epoxy, and some fiberglass for about $100-200 depending on how thrifty you want to be. Its a little time consuming, but if you're not looking to spend a months mortgage payment, then I'd look into doing it myself. I plugged that gaping hole for an OMC Electricshift and re-cut the hole for a Cobra pretty cheap, but like Mike said, making sure that you have the new cut out hole just perfect is the trick. Simply a matter of measuring everything 3-4 time to ensure that you only cut once.

I've seen a local shop install a pair of BIII's after removing a pair of OMC's . They're not the sharpest guys around and it did turn out well. He did say that the template was easy to use and they do give instructions. I'm sure you can handle all that's involved.

They did farm out the frame for the two engines.
