Rustproofing the oil pan

Okay, having to replace the oil pan, the old one is leaking again (actually the JB weld is not holding any longer).

So besides the freshwater rinse as part of the wash down, what can I do to the oil pan to lessen future problems or at least delay it for extra years, if that's possible....

Any comments on putting on some rustproofing stuff on the pan bolts will help too, since it could be a few year's before I might have to do it again.

Is the pan sitting in the bilge water? When I had a tournement ski boat, we always put a light coat of WD 40 on the motor after use. That kept all the corrosion off the motor.

If you can get to it, just spray it occassionaly with corrosion-X hd (the HD is thicker), sparay the whole motor with the regular corrosion-X. It will stay like new.

When you have the thing off, clean it down to bare metal with a sanding disk or something, coat it with cold galvanize(out side only) do not use top coat. the stuff is great, it will last a long time.

Go to a performance shop and buy a plated one. Cadmium (yellow irridited), pans are plentiful.
And add capacity.
And cheap!

Also Jeg's or Summit.

Also use SS bolts. do as carl has mentioned go to any performance shop and just put a good coat of rustoleum hard hat paint on it, you should be fine.

I use red CorrosionX on stuff up high and blue CorrosionX on stuff that is low in the bilge. The blue is thicker and lasts longer.

The CorrosionX method seems like an expensive way to do what WD40 could do.

A lot of guys that have problems with thier Superduty oil pans (in the salt belt) swear by POR-15. Excellent stuff!
