| Mercruiser 6.2 GPH
Hey folks need some feedback, Do any of you run the new 6.2 Mercruiser MPI Seacore? I am repowering and am thinking about that powerplant but do not know what the GPH is. I know that weight, prop, seas, size and all that shit really matters. But just give me some details on your boat and what your fuel consumption is and I can get an idea of what I'll get. My 260 HP 350 FI Mercruiser with 1100 hrs just couldn't take the stress anymore and gave up the Ghost. I guess I was a little overpropped and overloaded. Too much stress! So I will not Rebuild and run underpower or prop down any smaller. Just more torque and HP will solve that problem.

Hi Charlie,
Don't know about the power plant you are looking at but I recently re-powered with a 383 Chev. The motor makes 325 hp and 370 foot pounds of torque.
The warranty is great, made in Spokane and when it was all said and done about 2500 less than the factory motor, including new manifolds, risers and all the stuff.
PM me if you want the details.

Check in places like Jegs and Summit. They have truck towing crate engines that might suit your needs. Not alot of difference. A 350 with 290 hp and 332 ft/lbs is $1799. Everything new, 4 bolt block, rods, etc. 330/380 is $2549.
And you like, you can re-cam with a Merc H.O. cam.

5.8 to 11 gph... I burn 5.8 at 3200/24 knots swinging a 17/21. The boat weighs about 4300 pounds or so loaded. I opted for a carb. rather than FI so I could tweak the fuel burn to my liking. If I use my head and don't run at 4000+ all day, I end up with about 4 nm per gallon. Hope this helps.

That does help! That is very good consumption on a boat of that size. I do not have the smarts to tweak with carbs so I am going to go with the MPI. I weigh in at 6000 lbs fully loaded so I hope at cruise to burn 8-9 gph. I am putting a Flow sensor and meter in also. I was probably burning 13-14 gph on my old tired 350 w/260HP, After all it had 1100 hrs and I was overpropped for over half it's life. Almost nine years old and one dousing of the Cylinders of Saltwater when the Manifolds leaked about 4 years ago so we had pitting going on also. I will probably go with the 6.2 as its the same size in the compartment as the 350.
