Draining the fuel tanks?

Well I bought the boat a year ago now and with the redo, haven't used it yet. I'm planning on launching next week for at least a shakedown, but I really have no idea how old the fuel is and want to pump the tanks (2) dry and refill with new gas.

I don't have a fuel transfer pump and don't want to spend a couple C-notes or more to get one for a one time job. If you have a good suggestion on renting one or somehow pumping my fuel out I all ears. Or if I could borrow someone's fuel pump, that'd be great.

What Frank said!
Just diconnect the fuel line from your fuel pump, hook it back up to the new electric pump with enough hose to route the fuel off the boat and into a drum for disposal.

Cooter & I keep one of them on Hanna wired with some aligator clips and 3/8" fuel line just incase the mechanical pump on the 350 takes a shit.

Oh, good times...not!
I did it last year, probably 40+ gallons. The fun part was gradually adding it to my truck.
I did it a little differently. I used a vacuum pump. Basically, made negative pressure in the jugs and sucked it out through the pick-up. Then transferred to jerry cans.
To bad you're up north, I'd let you borrow it no problem.

Good luck, Eric

I just siphoned mine with a clear hose bought from home depot. Love the taste of super in the morning. Did 80 gallons into jerry cans.
Edit, I have plenty of jerry cans if you need them. I live in Lake Forest.

Isn't being a boater great fun? While others are out fishing, I've got to drain my gas...

I have no idea how much is in each tank. What's the best way to find out?

Good thoughts and suggestions there guys. Jim (?), I'll let you know if I need to borrow the cans - thanks.

You can also take compressed air and pressurize the tank slowly and let the pressure push the fuel out the line, but you will have to plug the vent line. While you drain fuel I'll be pulling my outdrive and taking it to outdrive exchange. Isn't being a boat owner great.

siphon

I filled my hose about half way with water, keep that end kinked and lower than your tank, put the other end in the tank, then let the water drain out starting the siphon. It's obvious when the water ends and the gas begins. Have a gas can or five ready and your in business.

I don't think pressurizing a fuel tank with air is a good idea- (an inert gas like nitrogen with controls, OK-but that's too industrial for this task) but never air
