2005 Yamaha 4 Stroke Fuel Pump Problems

I am having issues with clogging/failure of the Hi Pressure Fuel Filter. I have a 2005 2320 SL with 250 Yami 4 stroke and the boat is in the shop for the second time in less than 2 yrs they have replaced Hi Pressure Pump. I am finding out that are a few others experiencing the same problem with the 2005 model year. Yamaha is claiming that this was not a warranty issue sighting fuel contamination. I have a few buddies with Yamaha 4 strokes ('04, '06 and '07) who live and fish and gas up in the same areas I do and none of them have had this problem. This problem again seems to be centered around the 2005 model year. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
I would like to add that I change all my filters, oil and plugs and regularly use Ring Free. Filters never show any residue and the plugs are never fouled but I still replace all every 100 hrs.

Do you run a 10 micron or less pre filter? 600 hours on mine, 05 225hp, no issues.
"issues with clogging/failure, fuel systems" is the number one problem in all the newer engines according to the dealer who does my service. Recommended the 10 micron or better pre filter to prevent fuel issues when I first installed the engine.

Have been using the 10 micron since they replaced the first pump 4 months after I purchased the boat.

I remember back in the days that the Parker fuel tanks were not the greatest, resulting in white powder residue being combined with the fuel. That may be a reason why you are experiencing this issue and not your friends.

Just a thought.

I have two 2002 F-225 Yamaha's with 900 hours running all sorts of fuel (good to really bad quality) and not had one fuel issue to speak of. I change my filters frequently and when Yamaha came out with their new 10 micro blue filters, I switched.

I change filters every 50 hours and leave my boat full of fuel (locked cap).

This is a problem I ran into a couple years ago. After replacing my obviously clogged hi-press pump filter,I still had probs until someone on this site pointed out the above quote.I pulled my fuel rail and injectors and inspected under a magnyfyiong glass and low and be hold I could tell that one of them was clogged and only because I could not see a fine screen mesh in the one.Now on the other hand if they were all clogged I would not have been able to tell at all.

If your hi-press pump is clogging and your primary or first filter your fuel goes through isnt, this means the particulates are fine enough to pass through and then some of them are getting stopped at the hi-press pump filter and the rest are getting through and ending up in the fuel injector filter.
If youve ever looked into the back of an injector at the filter ,it is soo fine you cant even tell its a filter, even if you look through a magnifying glass, unless you have a clean one to compare, you couldnt tell it was clogged.
This may be your problem.
Good luck to ya!

Just reread post,if the problem goes away after you get it back from the shop after a few hours then it could just be only clogging hi-press pump filter. But if prob persists, then read above.
Install a ricor fuel filter.I tossed the yamaha filter setup on my boat at 10 hours and replaced it with a ricor.

FYI-with a clogged injector motor will run and rev up nicely in the driveway as if running perfect, but as soon as you get it in the water and put a load on her...total collapse of top end power.
