Name: Alan Vessel: 2520 Parker SL 250 Yammie Location: Eastern San Diego County Job:Trying not to have one..... | Yamaha F250 overheat while engine flush? Hey any of you with the larger 4 stroke Yammies...
The last couple of times I have hooked up the "earmuffs" to the lower unit to flush the engine its almost like there's an airlock of some sort, and after a while I get the overheat alarm.
I have started the flow at full high (tied directly into my irrigation lines-- excellent pressure), I've tried real low to start then bumped it. Both time when I give it full pressure it does pee, and it it doesn't feel hot.
The water coming out the exhaust feels kinda sorta hot, not real hot.
The muffs are the kind with flow from both sides...
Can you hook up the flush hose after unscrewing the hose fitting on the upper unit near the pee hole and also be able to run the engine that way?
I have flushed doing that without the engine running.
Have any of you had a similar problem?
Thanks in advance.
Never had an overheat at any time on the water.... |

Bio: I have every sympathy with the American who was so horrified by what he read of the effects of drinking that he gave up reading. | I have a yamaha 4stroke 225. Boat is in the water but i always use the hose fitting and do not run the motor. This i think has been covered in some other yamaha threads. I asked the mechanic and he said it is recommended not to run the motor and flush with the hose connector. That is what the manual said too. A good question for yamaha if you have concerns. Good luck.

Again per dealer do not use muffs, instead use the hose fitting and no need to run motor...Shrimpo must have one of the older models or maybe some other make!!!!...Are we beating a Dead Horse yet? |

Name: Dan Bonfield Age: 60 Vessel: blackman 29-comanche Location: escondido Job:business manager | I had the same problem with an older Yamaha 150. I knowledgeable Yamaha mechanic told me it was a characteristic problem with Yamahas. He said if you run it in a barrel it will work better. I was selling the boat, so I just put it in the water and made sure it was ok in the water.

Bad advice right there.
Yamaha specs and mechanics say flush the engine with the provided (built-in) hose connector.
It would be a shame to ruin such an awesome engine.
I run the water for 15 minutes on our F250 with the engine off.
I don't mean to be a know-it-all but I read our manual at least twice, and asked my mechanic.
Dave
