OMC Cobra question?

End of season last year my Cobra outdrive has a problem with going into reverse and forward. I am out on Lake Mohave and am basically stuck. Disconnected the Shift cable and shift manually and it works fine. Tried adjusting andjust could not get it to work right. Get the boat back home replace the shift\throttle control, adjust everything and it works perfectly at home. Due to all that has happend at the begenning of this year I finally get a day to take my boat out. Go to launch the boat and it won't go in reverse\forward, neutral works great. Make a little adjustment at the the dock and it works some what. I promised my wife a trip around the bay and have a good back-up kicker. So we cruise San Diego bay. I had no idea it was that big and so many boats. Have always just launced there and headed out. Anyway's the outdrive still has issues with going into gear. Get it home and hook up the hose and it works perfectly every time. Is there additional torque on the engine when it is in the pond as compared to the hose that I need to adjust for?

Make sure that you have greased the zerk fitting on the starboard side of the outdrive as it goes to the reverse linkage. When I got my Cobra it was hard to shift. Pulled the O/D lubed everything and it works great.
