Rebuilding a Sherwood or buy new?

Looks like both of my Sherwood water pumps need a rebuild or replacement as the bearings are very hard to turn. I found kits with the bearings, gaskets & impeller for a "major repair" for about $135. vs new replacement for around $350. each.

I found the rebuild instructions online. Are these pumps easy to fix or should I buy new?

Never mind... due to a requirement for pressing new bearings, looks like I'll be getting new.

Ebasicpower.com was the cheapest on genuine Johnson pumps for my app. I did go a bit larger.

"You never have to worry about how long she'll pump when you've got a BIG Johnson!!"

They had Jabsc, and Sherwood too!

dG ;-)

Thanks, and yes, that's where I went. I googled the pump and found the best price was at ebasicpower (a whopping $40 less than the next best price).

David, next time you gotta rebuild, just use a large vice and a couple of the right size sockets to press the bearing in and out. I rebuilt a Jabsco for my first boat w/ a 270 in about 20 minutes.

I'll go one even better - next time I'll just bring 'em over with a sixer!
